Edmond Boy Sweater Knit Pattern Construction
The child sweater is knitted from the bottom up. Each panel is worked separately then sewed together. Stitches for the round collar ribbing are then picked up and worked in the round (option to work flat).

Materials
Note: The entire sweater can be worked on straight needles. All pieces are worked flat. Notes to adjust the collar to be worked in rows are also provided.
- Rosarios Atlântico (worsted weight 4, 80% Cotton, 20% Lyocell, 100g / 3.5 Oz, 180m / 196 yd):
1 (1, 1, 1, 1) (1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3) skein in yellow 05
1 (1, 1, 1, 1) (1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3) skein in green 11
1 (1, 1, 1, 1) (2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3) skeins in blue 15
Note: Although classified as a worsted weight category 4 yarn by the company, it is closer to a category 3 DK weight yarn to me.
- Tapestry needle to weave in the ends

Size
The sweater knitting pattern is available in the following baby & kid sizes: 3 months to 16 years. Sizes are noted throughout the pattern in the following way: 3 (6, 12, 18, 24) months (4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16) years. The pictures illustrate the 4 years size.

The sweater is designed with a loose fit 8 – 12 cm / 3” – 5” ease at the bust.
Gauge
The gauge for this pattern, in stockinette stitch, is 18.5 st by 40 rows for a 10 cm by 10 cm square (4” by 4”).
Abbreviations & Instructions
- st = stitch
- k = knit
- p = purl
- k2tog = knit 2 stitches together; right-leaning decrease
- ssk = slip slip knit; left-leaning decrease
Repeat instructions between [] the indicated number of times or until the end of the round/row.
The final number of stitches is indicated at the end of the round/row between < >.
Special Stitches and Techniques
- Garter stitch worked flat: knit on both sides of your project.
Picking up stitches: if you’re not familiar with this technique, this tutorial is very helpful.

Back Panel
With your blue color yarn and 4 mm / US 6 needles, cast on 48 (50, 52, 54, 58) (64, 68, 72, 76, 80, 84. 86).
Bottom ribbing
For sizes 3m (-, 12m, -, -) (4y, 6y, 8y, 10y, 12y, 14y, -): [k2, p2] across, for 6 rows.
For sizes – (6m, -, 18m, 24m) (-, -, -, -, -, -, 16y):
Row 1: [k2, p2] until last 2 st, k2.
Row 2: [p2, k2] until last 2 st, p2.
Repeat Row 1 – 2 twice.
Stripe pattern
Note: Don’t cut off the yarn at each color change but carry it up on the side. You’ll hide these floats in your seams when assembling the sweater. Do the same for each sweater panel.
Switch to green color yarn and knit 2 rows.
Switch to yellow color yarn and knit 2 rows.
Switch to blue color yarn and knit 2 rows.
Repeat these 6 rows until total length is 22 (24.5, 26, 27, 29) (35, 38, 43.5, 49, 52.5, 55, 57.5) cm / 8.75 (9.75, 10.25, 10.5, 11.5) (13.75, 15, 17.25, 19.25, 20.75, 21.75, 22.5)”.
Cast off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Front Panel
With your blue color yarn, cast on 48 (50, 52, 54, 58) (64, 68, 72, 76, 80, 84. 86).
Repeat bottom ribbing and stripe pattern as for the back panel until total length is 18 (20.5, 22, 22, 24) (30, 32, 36.5, 42, 44.5, 47, 48.5) cm / 7 (8, 8.75, 8.75, 9.5) (11.75, 12.5, 14.5, 16.5, 17.5, 18.5, 19)”.
Keep working in strip pattern.

Neck Opening Shaping
On the next row cast off middle 10 st for the neck opening: Knit 19 (20, 21, 22, 24) (27, 29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 38), cast off 10, knit 19 (20, 21, 22, 24) (27, 29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 38).
Work each side separately (continuing stripe color pattern).
[Knit 1 row
K1, ssk, knit across, turn] 4 (4, 4, 5, 5) (5, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9) times. <15 (16, 17, 17, 19) (22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 29, 29) st.
Continue working straight until 4 (4, 4, 5, 5) (5, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9) cm / 1.5 (1.5, 1.5, 2, 2) (2, 2.25, 2.75, 2.75, 3.25. 3.25, 3.5) from collar opening.
Cast off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Join yarn for back at the collar for the other side.

Knit until last 3 st, k2tog, k1] 4 (4, 4, 5, 5) (5, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9) times. <15 (16, 17, 17, 19) (22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 29, 29) st.

Sleeves
Make 2.
With your blue color yarn, cast on 42 (44, 46, 48, 50) (56, 58, 62, 68, 72, 76, 82).
Working in the same striped pattern as for the sweater body, knit 7 (8, 10.5, 13, 14) (14.5, 15.5, 19, 19, 21.5, 22, 20.5) cm / 2.75 (3.25, 4,25, 5.25, 5.5) (5.75, 6, 7.5, 7.5, 8.5, 8.75, 8)”.
[Knit 7 rows
Decrease Row: k1, ssk, knit until last 3 st, k2tog, k1] 4 times. <34 (36, 38, 40, 42) (48, 50, 54, 60, 64, 68, 74) st>
[knit 3 rows followed by decrease row] for 1 (1, 1, 0, 0) (3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 14) times. <32 (34, 36, 40, 42) (42, 42, 44, 44, 46, 46, 46) st>
Switch to blue color yarn & work Decrease row twice. <28 (30, 32, 36, 38) (38, 38, 40, 40, 42, 42, 42) st>
For sizes – (6m, -, -, 24m) (4y, 6y, -, -, 12y, 14y, 16y):
Next row: k1, ssk, [p2, k2] until last 3 st, p2tog, p1. <x (28, x, x, 36) (36, 36, x, x, 40, 40, 40) st>
Then [k2, p2] across for 5 rows
Cast off a leave a long tail for sewing
For sizes 3m (-, 12m, 18m, -) (-, -, 8y, 10y, -, -, -):
Next row: k1, ssk, [p2, k2] until last 5 st, p2, k2tog, k1. <26 (x, 30, 34, x) (x, x, 38, 38, x, x) st>
Rib Row 1: P2, [k2, p2] across.
Rib Row 2: K2, [p2, k2] across.
Repeat Rib Row 1 and 2 then repeat Rib Row 1 one more time.
Cast off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Finishing Touches
Sew the front and back panels together. Make the shoulder seams first, then attach the sleeves and sew them closed.
Finally sew down the sides.
Weave in all your ends.

Collar
Pick up 56 (56, 56, 60, 60) (60, 64, 68, 68, 72, 72, 76) st around the neckline and join in the round.
[k2, p2] around for 4 rounds.
Note: If you prefer to work in rows back and forth, make sure to start picking up stitches at the shoulder seam. Knit in rows back and forth in 2 by 2 ribbing for 4 rounds then sew the collar closed. Cast off loosely and weave in the ends
Blocking
You are done with the knitting part. Make sure to weave in all the ends.
To make your sweater even prettier, help even your stitches and flatten your seams, wet block your project. Don’t skip this step as it can make a huge difference. Read my detailed tutorial on why block, how-to, and all my tips and tricks if you need help.
