Lace Shawl Knit-Along
The Part 7 Honeycomb Diamond Lace knitting pattern is the 6th section in the Step into Lace Shawl Knitalong (KAL).
Join us to knit a beautiful, versatile shawl while learning lace knitting step by step in this FREE 9 week Shawl knitalong. With nine carefully structured sections, this rectangular lace shawl is designed to build your skills gradually.
You’ll start with simple eyelets and progress toward more intricate stitch patterns, learning how lace works along the way so it stops feeling mysterious and starts feeling manageable.
Using just four colors, you’ll create 8 gorgeous stripes and 1 pretty divider to form your own stunning knit lace shawl.

Before You Start Part 7 of Honeycomb Diamond Lace Free Knitting Pattern
Materials
- 4 mm / US 6 knitting needles
- DK weight yarn: LB Collection® Superwash Merino Yarn (100% superwash merino wool, 100g/3.5oz, 280m/306yd): You will need about 28g/78m/85yd in Hemp [486-123U]
- Tapestry needle
Size
This section is approximately 22 cm/8.5 inches tall.
Abbreviations & Instructions
- st = stitch
- k = knit
- p = purl
- ssk = slip slip knit; left-leaning decrease
- k2tog = knit 2 stitches together, right-leaning decrease
- sl1k = slip 1 stitch knitwise
- psso = pass slipped stitch over knitted stitch
Repeat instructions between [] the indicated number of times or until the end of the row.
The final number of stitches is indicated at the end of the row between < >.
Special Stitches
Left leaning double decrease: sl1p, k2tog, psso = Slip 1 purlwise, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over knitted stitch.
Notes
To improve the neat finish of your ssk and avoid a staircase effect on the ssk diagonals: slip the 1st st as if to knit, slip the 2nd st as if to purl (instead of knit) then finish the stitch as usual. This will twist the back stitch making it tighter and giving the overall decrease a neater finish.

Row 1: Sl1k, p1, [k1, p1] twice, knit until last 6st, [k1, p1] three times.
Row 2 (and all wrong side rows): Sl1k, p1, [k1, p1] twice, purl until last 6st, [k1, p1] three times.
Row 3: Sl1k, p1, [k1, p1] twice, [k7, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, k4] until last 6st, [k1, p1] three times.
Row 4: Sl1k, p1, [k1, p1] twice, purl until last 6st, [k1, p1] three times.
Row 5: Sl1k, p1, [k1, p1] twice, [k6, k2tog, yo, k5, yo, ssk, k3] until last 6st, [k1, p1] three times.
Row 6: Sl1k, p1, [k1, p1] twice, purl until last 6st, [k1, p1] three times.
Row 7: Sl1k, p1, [k1, p1] twice, [k5, k2tog, yo, k1, [k2, yo, ssk] 2 times, k2] until last 6st, [k1, p1] three times.

Repeat from row 3 to 18.
Repeat from row 3 to 16 one more time. Switch to Antique color yarn and work a divider section (refer to part 1) before diving into part the next part.
