Before You Start Your Bird Prints Blanket Section Crochet Stitch Tutorial Pattern
Materials
- 4.5 mm / US 7 hook
- WeCrochet Wool of the Andes (worsted weight (4), 100% superwash wool, 50g/1.75oz, 100m/110yd) in Brass Heather. You will need about 35g / 70 m / 77 yd.
- Tapestry needle
- Measuring tape
Size
The Blanket section is approximately 8 cm / 3.25” tall and 127 cm / 50” wide.
The bird print stitch requires a stitch multiple of 30 st.
Gauge
The gauge for this pattern, in pattern, is 17.5 st by 13 rows for a 10 cm by 10 cm / 4” by 4” square.
Abbreviations
This pattern uses US notations.
- st = stitch
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- fptr = front post treble crochet
- fpdtr = front post double treble crochet
Notes
This section is not symmetrical. The sample is worked up by a left-handed crocheter. Right-handed crocheters will have a mirror image with the bird prints going in the opposite direction.


Work instructions between [] the indicated number of times or until the end of the row / round.
The final number of stitches is indicated at the end of the row / round between < >.
The turning ch 1, ch 4 don’t count as stitches throughout the pattern except if mentioned otherwise.
The pattern is written in crochet shorthand. For example:
- “dc 1” means to double crochet in the next stitch,
- “dc 2” means to double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches,
- and “2 dc” means to double crochet twice in the next st.

Special Stitches and Repeated Patterns
- Front post treble crochet (fptr) =
- Yarn over twice, insert hook from front to back to front behind the indicated double crochet post below, yarn over, and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook).
- Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook).
- Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook).
- Yarn over, and pull through all remaining loops.
- Front post double treble crochet (fpdtr) =
- Yarn over three times, insert hook from front to back to front behind the indicated double crochet post below, yarn over, and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook).
- Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook).
- Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook).
- Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook).
- Yarn over, and pull through all remaining loops.
The Actual Chicken Feet Crochet Blanket Stripe Pattern Free
Work this part on top of the divider section you worked after part 1. You will start with a RS row.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc across, turn.
Row 2: Ch 2, dc across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc across, turn.
Row 4: Ch 2, dc across, turn.Row 5: Ch 1, [sc 14, fpdtr in sc 4 st before (this st is referred to as center stitch), sc, fptr in sc 2 rows below and 2 st further, sc 2, fpdtr around post of fpdtr and fptr, sc 10] repeat across, turn.


Row 6: Ch 2, dc across, turn.
Note: Make sure not to skip the center stitch as it will be pulled tighter due to the different post stitches. Check your stitch count if needed (should be 210st at the end of the row).
Row 7: Ch 1, [sc 18, fpdtr around all post stitches below, sc 11] across, turn.

Row 8: Ch 2, dc across, turn.
Row 9: Ch 1, sc across, turn.
Row 10: Ch 2, dc across, turn.
Fasten off and work divider section.
