Before You Start Your Fans and V’s Blanket Section Crochet Stitch Tutorial Pattern

Materials

4.5 mm / US 7 hook 

WeCrochet Wool of the Andes (worsted weight (4), 100% superwash wool, 50g/1.75oz,  100m/110yd) in Icicle Heather. You will need about 122g / 244 m / 267 yd.

Tapestry  needle 

● Measuring tape 

Size

The Blanket section is approximately 12 cm / 5” tall and 127 cm / 50” wide. 

The Fan and V stitch requires a stitch multiple of 8 st + 2. 

Gauge

The gauge for this pattern, in pattern, is 17.5 st by 11.5 rows for a 10 cm by 10 cm / 4” by 4”  square.

Abbreviations

Free Yarn Jargon Cheatsheets

This pattern uses US notations.

● st = stitch  

● sl st = slip stitch  

● ch = chain  

● sc = single crochet

● dc = double crochet 

Work instructions between [] the indicated number of times or until the end of the row /  round. The final number of stitches is indicated at the end of the row / round between < >.  

The turning ch 1, ch 2 don’t count as stitches throughout the pattern except if mentioned  otherwise.  

The pattern is written in crochet shorthand. For example:  

● “dc 1” means to double crochet in the next stitch,  

● “dc 2” means to double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, 

● and “2 dc” means to double crochet twice in the next st. 

Special Stitches and Repeated Patterns  

• V stitch = (1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc) in same stitch

The Actual Fans & V’s Crochet Blanket Stripe Pattern Free

Row 1: Ch 1, sc, skip 4, 9 dc, skip 3, sc, [skip 3, 9 dc, skip 3, sc] across, turn. <26 shells, 27 sc>

Row 2: Ch 2, 2 dc into first sc, [ch 5, skip 9-dc group, V st in next sc] across ending with ch 5, skip last 9-dc group, 2 dc into last sc, turn.

Row 3: Ch 2, dc, 4 dc, [working over next ch-5 so as to enclose it, sc into 5th dc of group in row  below*, 9 dc into ch-sp at center of next V st] across ending last repeat at *, 5 dc in last dc,  turn.

Row 4:  Ch 1, sl st, ch 2, skip 5-dc, V st into next sc, [ch 5, skip 9-dc group, V st in next sc] across ending  with ch 2, sl st in last dc, turn.  

2 shell and v stitch rows completed

Row 5: Ch  1, sc over sl st into first st of row below, [9 dc into sp at center of next V st*, working over next  ch-5 so to enclose it sc into 5th dc of group in row below] across ending last repeat at *, sc into  last st, turn. 

Repeat rows 2-5 until your section is 11 cm / 4.75” high ending on a Row 2 or 4, working [ch 2,  sc to 5th dc of group, ch 2] in place of ch-5 between the V sts.  

Switch to divider color yarn and replace Row 1 of divider instructions with this row:

Alternative Row 1 (if  ending on a Row 2): Ch 1, hdc in next 2 dc, [2 hdc in ch-2 space, hdc in sc, hdc into 5th dc of  group in row below, 2 hdc in ch-2 space*, 3 hdc in V st ch-space] across ending last repeat at *,  hdc in last 2 st, turn. <210 st>  

Alternative Row 1 (if ending on a Row 4): Ch 1, hdc in sl st, [2 hdc in ch-2 space, 3 hdc in V st  ch-space, 2 hdc in ch-2 space, hdc in sc] working last hdc in sl st, turn. <210 st>  

Fasten off and work divider section.
