The Strings of Diamonds knit blanket strip section is crafted using only knit and purl stitches, creating a simple yet elegant diamond-shaped texture. Aside from the slip stitch along the edges, the entire pattern relies on these two fundamental stitches to form the design.

Before You Start The Strings of Diamonds Free Knitting Pattern
Materials
- 6.5 mm / US 10.5 knitting needles
- Chunky weight yarn: WeCrochet Wool of the Andes Bulky (100% superwash wool,
100g/3.5oz, 125m/137yd): You will need about 85g/106m/116yd in Persimmon Heather - Tapestry needle
Size
For sections where the stitch instructions are different for the different sizes, the size instructions are given in as follows: throw (lapghan).
The Stripe section is approximately 10 cm / 4” high and 127 (102) cm / 50 (40)” wide. The string of diamonds requires a multiple of 6 + 1 stitch.
Abbreviations & Instructions
- st = stit
- k = knit (k 2 means knit 2 stitches)
- p = purl
- sl1p = slip 1 stitch purlwise
Repeat instructions between [] the indicated number of times or until the end of the row.
Notes
The Strings of Diamonds section is made out of only knits and purls (except the edge slip stitch).

The Actual Blanket Section Free Knitting Pattern

For visual learners refer to the chart after the written instructions.
As this is the first KAL section, start with casting on 181 (151) stitches.
Tip: Add a stitch marker after the 6 last stitches on each end. These stitches will be knit in garter
stitch (knit on both sides) throughout the blanket to ensure a flat edge.
Row 1 – 4: Sl1p, k5, [k1, p1], until last 7 st, k7. <181 (151) st>
Row 5: Sl1p, knit across
Row 6: Sl1p, k5, purl until last 6 st, k6.
Row 7-8: Repeat Row 5-6.
Row 9: Sl1p, k5, [k3, p1, k2] until last 7 st, k7.
Row 10: Sl1p, k5, [p2, k1, p1, k1, p1] until last 7 st, p1, k6.
Row 11: Sl1p, k5, [k1, p1, k3, p1] until last 7 st, k7.
Row 12: Sl1p, k5, [k1, p5] until last 7 st, p1, k6.
Row 13 (Repeat Row 11): Sl1p, k5, [k1, p1, k3, p1] until last 7 st, k7.
Row 14 (Repeat Row 10): Sl1p, k5, [p2, k1, p1, k1, p1] until last 7 st, p1, k6.
Row 15 (Repeat Row 9): Sl1p, k5, [k3, p1, k2] until last 7 st, k7.
Row 16: Sl1p, k5, purl until last 6 st, k6.
Row 17 – 20: Repeat Row 5-6 twice.
