The blanket is designed with a white garter stitch background, featuring all colored scraps. The results will be best with a light neutral main color. You can choose to restrict your scraps to certain colors or go tutti frutti like I did.

This project is great for those tiny leftover threads of yarn since you’ll need only between 1 and 2m of yarn for each thread.

With your 6 mm / US 10 knitting needles and main color yarn, cast on 49 (98, 140, 154, 161, 182, 238, 322, 343, 385) st.

Knit in garter stitch (knit on both sides) until you reach 40 (88, 80, 104, 120, 120, 184, 220, 220, 220) cm / 15.75 (34.5, 31.5, 41, 47.25, 47.25, 72.5, 86.5, 86.5, 86.5)”.

Note: Your blanket will stretch out lengthwise and shrink width wise about 20% when you add the scrap yarn woven threads. This is completely normal but needs to be taken into account if you adjust the sizing.

Cast off and weave in your ends.

Scraplines

Cut 49 (98, 140, 154, 161, 182, 238, 322, 343, 385) strands of scrap yarn of 85 (120, 150, 160, 165, 180, 220, 280, 295, 325) cm / 33 (47, 58.5, 62.5, 64.5, 70, 86, 109, 115, 127)” long.

You will need one strand per stitch. For the thinnest yarns, I’ve doubled up and used a double thread so it would show and would look better in the fringe.

With your tapestry needle, thread each strand through your garter stitch fabric. Make sure you thread through a straight line and have the same length left over on each side of the blanket.

In groups of 3, secure with a knot as close as possible to the blanket and make a twisted fringe on each side of the blanket. You may need to have one fringe with 2 or 4 threads to finish.

Blocking

You are done with the knitting part. Make sure to weave in all the ends.

To make your blanket even prettier, help even your stitches, block your project. Don’t skip this step as it can make a huge difference. Read my detailed tutorial on why block, how-to, and all my tips and tricks if you need help.
