Before You Start Your Feathers Stitch Crochet Pattern Free Blanket Stipe Tutorial
Mateials
- 5 mm / US 7 hook
- WeCrochet Wool of the Andes (worsted weight (4), 100% superwash wool, 50g/1.75oz, 100m/110yd) in Brass Heather. You will need about 140g / 280m / 308 yd.
- Tapestry needle
- Measuring Tape
Size
The Blanket section is approximately 13 cm / 5.25” tall and 127 cm / 50 inches wide.
This section features the feather stitch which requires an odd number of stitches.
Gauge
The gauge for this pattern, in stitch pattern, is 17.5 st by 12.5 rows for a 10 cm by 10 cm / 4” by 4” square.
Abbreviations
This pattern uses US notations.
- st = stitch
- sl st = slip stitch
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- hdc2tog = half double crochet 2 stitches together
- dc = double crochet
- FS = feather stitch
- WS = wrong side
- RS = right side
Notes
Work instructions between [] the indicated number of times or until the end of the row / round.
The final number of stitches is indicated at the end of the row / round between < >.
The turning ch 1, ch 2 don’t count as stitches throughout the pattern except if mentioned otherwise.
The pattern is written in crochet shorthand. For example:
- “dc 1” means to double crochet in the next stitch,
- “dc 2” means to double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches,
- and “2 dc” means to double crochet twice in the next st.
Special Stitches and Repeated Patterns
Feather Stitch (FS):
- Yarn over, insert hook in ch-1 space, yarn over and up pull up a loop
- Yarn over, insert hook in ch 1-sp from the row below (hdc from the row below on the first row only), yarn over and pull up a loop.
- Yarn over, insert hook in next ch-1 space, yarn over and pull up a loop.
- Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on hook.
Note: The feather stitch is worked over 2 ch-1 spaces from the previous row and 1 ch-1 space from the row below. The next feather stitch will re-use the last ch-1 space that was used by the previous stitch.

Row 1: Ch 1, hdc2tog, hdc across, turn. <209 st>
Row 2: Ch 1, hdc, [ch 1, skip 1, hdc] across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, hdc, ch 1, [Feather stitch, ch 1] until last ch-1 space (finishing the last feather stitch in the last ch 1-sp), hdc in last st, turn.

Repeat Row 3 until you reach 12.5 cm / 5

Finishing Row: Ch 1, hdc, [hdc in ch-1 space, hdc in next feather st] until last ch-1 space, hdc in last ch-1 space, 2hdc in last st, turn. <210 st>
Fasten off and work divider section.
