Blanket Construction
The Color Divide blanket is worked in one piece in simple stockinette stitch with a ribbed border at the top/bottom and sides to avoid curling.
The white divider lines are then added with surface crochet or embroidered with a tapestry needle. Both techniques are detailed in the pattern below.
Colors & Stripe Pattern
The blanket is designed with an uneven number of stripes. Pick one of your colors as the mail color yarn for which you will make 1 more stripe than of the other colors.
In the sample pictured here I choose to use Love Song (reddish pink) as my main color. I worked the first, middle and last stripe of my blanket in that color. The other stripes are just 2 of each color in a repeating order. Having that main color stripe on both ends and the middle ads symmetry and harmony to your blanket.
For the surface crochet / embroidered stripes make sure you pick a highly contrasting color compared to all your other colors. Off-white with the other colors being darker and more colourful or navy blue / black / charcoal gray if your other colors are light neutrals or pastels will give you the best results.

Sick of all the yarn jargon and conversions?
US vs UK, abbreviations, imperial vs metric, yarn weights, etc?

Work a total of 7 ( 9, 11, 11, 17, 21, 21, 21).
Switch yarn color.
Repeat Row 7 – 8 nine times (length is 12 cm / 4.75”).
End Stripe
Switch back to main color yarn.
Repeat Row 7 – 8 five times.
Repeat Row 1 – 6.
Cast off and weave in the ends.
White Contrast Lines
To add the off-white contrast lines you have 2 options: surface crochet or embroidery. Independently of the technique you choose you’ll start the divider lines after the 6 side ribbing border and go up to the last 6 st. Repeat at every color change across the blanket.
Option 1: Use a 10 mm crochet hook and surface crochet
Or find the complete video tutorial on my Youtube channel here
Option 2: Use a tapestry needle and embroider them on the blanket. Although the crochet technique is a bit faster if you don’t crochet or don’t have the right hook size, you can use a tapestry needle to embroider the divider lines instead.

Blocking
You are done with the knitting part. Make sure to weave in all the ends. To make your blanket even prettier, help even your stitches, block your project.
Don’t skip this step as it can make a huge difference. Read my detailed tutorial on why block, how-to, and all my tips and tricks if you need help.
