This knit blanket square pattern is for the warm and cozy fall blanket that instantly becomes everyone’s favorite. With the cute arrow texture, it makes the perfect afghan—beautiful and cozy.

The Arrowwood knit blanket square pattern is beginner level, only using knits and purls.

This worsted weight knit stitch is great for patchwork projects or afghans meant for cozying up by the fire and a cuppa.

Materials

Size

The Arrowwood knit blanket square is 20 cm / 8” square.

Gauge

The gauge for this pattern, in stockinette stitch, is 19 st by 24 rows for a 10 cm by 10 cm square (4” by 4”).

Abbreviations & Instructions

  • st = stitch
  • k = knit
  • p = purl
  • RS = right side
  • WS = wrong side
  • Sl1p = slip 1 stitch purlwise

The final number of stitches is indicated at the end of the round/row between < >.

Special Stitches and Techniques

  • Stockinette stitch: knit on RS and purl on WS of your project.
  • Reverse stockinette stitch: purl on the RS and knit on the WS of your project.

Read the graph starting in the bottom right corner.

All odd numbered rows are RS rows while even rows are worked on the WS.

The graph shows the RS view.

For a nice edge (indicated in orange), slip the first stitch of every row purlwise. On WS rows, knit the last stitch.

Preliminary row: knit across.

Row 2: Sl1p, p1, k1, p9, k1, p13, k1, p9, k1, p1, k1.

Row 3: Sl1p, k2, p1, k9, p1, k11, p1, k9, p1, k3.

Row 4: Sl1p, p3, k1, p9, k1, p9, k1, p9, k1, p3, k1.

Row 5: Sl1p, k4, p1, k9, p1, k7, p1, k9, p1, k5.

Row 6: Sl1p, p5, k1, p9, k1, p5, k1, p9, k1, p5, k1.

Row 7: Sl1p, k6, p1, k9, p1, k3, p1, k9, p1, k7.

Cast off and weave in the ends.

Blocking and Assembly

You’re done with the knitting part. Make sure to weave in all the ends.
