For this section you’ll combine increases and decreases to create this woven looking flow in the fabric. Make sure you keep track of your stitch counts and repeats for this one as it can get a little confusing to rely on reading your stitches.

Before You Start The Ice Skating Free Knitting Pattern

Materials

Size

For sections where the stitch instructions are different for the different sizes, the size instructions are given in as follows: throw (lapghan).
The Stripe section is approximately 10 cm / 4” high and 127 (102) cm / 50 (40)” wide.
The chevron rib stitch requires a multiple of 7 + 1.

Abbreviations & Instructions

  • st = stitch
  • k = knit (k 2 means knit 2 stitches)
  • p = purl
  • sl1p = slip 1 stitch purlwise
  • RH = right hand
  • LH = left hand
  • K2tog = knit 2 stitches together
    Repeat instructions between [] the indicated number of times or until the end of the row.
    The final number of stitches is indicated at the end of the row between < >.

Notes

Although this section might give the impression it has cables, it is an illusion and is only achieved with a combination of knits The Ice Skating movement in the fabric for this section is achieved through increases and decreases.

Special Stitches

  • Increase (inc) = with RH needle behind LH needle, insert tip of RH needle from top down into loop of purled st of row below, k this st, then k st on LH needle.

The Actual Blanket Section Free Knitting Pattern

Row 1: Sl1p, knit across
Row 2: Sl1p, k5 (8), purl until last 6 (8) st, k6 (8).
Row 3: Sl1p, k5 (7), [k2tog, k2, inc, k2] until last 7 (10) st, k7 (10).
Row 4: Sl1p, k5 (8), purl until last 6 (8) st, k6 (8).
Row 5: Sl1p, k6 (8), [k2, inc, k2, k2tog] until last 6 (9) st, k6 (9).
Row 6: Sl1p, k5 (8), purl until last 6 (8) st, k6 (8).
