Rustling Leaves Crochet Blanket Structure

The Blanket is worked in the round to create a square, while each section differs with its texture and gauge.

To ensure the the blanket lays flat and doesn’t become wobbly, the sections are worked with different size crochet hooks, please make sure to check the hook size and work a small swatch to make sure you gauge matches the specific section.

For that reason we also alternated the stitches in the corners, please pay attention to the increases in each round.

What is a Crochet-Along (aka CAL)?

A crochet-along (CAL) is a fun and inspiring event where crocheters from all over the world come together to work on the same pattern at the same time. While CALs can vary in style and format, they always share a strong sense of community—offering support, encouragement, and a chance to learn from one another.

If you’re new to crochet-alongs, don’t worry! They may seem a little intimidating at first, but they’re a wonderful way to build your skills, connect with fellow makers, and most importantly—have fun along the way.

Size

The Blanket is worked in the round and designed to be approximately a 127×127 cm / 50×50” square.

If you want to adjust the blanket size you can work less sections to make it smaller.

Gauge

The Blanket is worked with 3 hook sizes : 4 mm / US G – 6, 4.5 mm / US 7, and 5 mm / US H-8 crochet hooks.

Since each section has a different stitch pattern, to meet gauge for the specific section and have even edges on your blanket, we recommend you go down or up a hook size for some sections so you can get the same required gauge for every section as some stitch patterns are tighter or looser than others.

Start by identifying which hook size you need to get the base gauge mentioned in the pattern. This will be your base hook size.

The row height gauge is not as important for this design since each section has a different height for an intentional irregularity, this makes it very flexible for variations in gauge and will not impact on the overall look of your blanket.

Level

The crochet-a-long blanket is an intermediate-level crochet blanket pattern inspired by the beauty of the Autumn season and foliage. Step-by-step photos as well as videos are provided for any special stitches featured. The CAL is a great opportunity to get extra support and improve your crochet skills!

Overall Notes

  • Agat’s sections, part 1, 3 and 6 have right handed step by step pictures while Hortense’s, aka part 2, 4 and 5 have left handed step by step photos. All videos come in both right and left handed.
  • Pay attention to the hook size in each section.
  • All transition rounds are crocheted with 5 mm : US H-8 hook, except the transition rounds between section 5 and 6 which are crocheted with 4.5 mm / US 7 hook.
  • Make sure to check your gauge before each section, and choose the hook size that will give you the correct gauge!
  • The corner stitches can differ from one section to the next and also within the section itself, in order to ensure the rate of increase is correct and the blanket lies nicely flat.
  • Start your blanket with Part 1: Autumn Bloom Square. Once you finish part 1, work the Transition rounds, whose instructions follow each section. After which you will move on to Part 2, followed by another Transition section whose instructions are given at the end of the Part’s pattern, and continue in this manner until you finish Part 6.
  • For this blanket, we didn’t add a border. You’re welcome to add any border if you’d like!
