A love letter to blooming flowers, an ode to Spring’s florals, a refreshing reminder of the brighter days ahead. The Fleur sweater is ready to peek through the surface and emerge from your hooks.

The lace works up quick and the piece is constructed from 4 rectangles with minimal shaping. This easy crochet lace sweater pattern is exactly what you need to ring in the Spring season.

Flower Crochet Lace

I love to crochet lace. First of all, it makes your project works up so much quicker! It also allows you to create lighter garments and accessories for the warmer seasons.

Adding lace to a worsted weight wool sweater makes it a great transition piece. Keeping you warm on colder days but breezy so you don’t suffocate.

I usually stay away from visual representations in my designs (wether in colorwork, lace and texture) but for this sweater I wanted a clear flower power inspiration.

This flower lace pattern is a simple combination of the basic stitches (ch, sc, dc, tr) and skipped stitches. Yes you need to count a little to keep track of what you’re doing but after a few repeats it’s a breeze. The simple boxed construction of this lightly cropped crochet sweater makes it easy for you to focus on your stitches as there is barely any shaping required.

For the visual crocheters here is the crochet chart for the flower lace stitch. Don’t worry, the pattern has it all written out for you too ;).

The Yarn

The Fleur crochet sweater pattern is designed with the lovely squishy Hobbii Tweed Delight yarn. It’s a single ply worsted weight wool blend tweed yarn.

When I think of tweed, I usually think of fall but I love how this tweed has super colorful specks making it an unexpected great choice for spring & summer makes.

Soft and squishy, it flies of your hook. I can’t wait to make something with the few skeins I have left over.

The sweater is designed with a normal fit, 2 – 4 cm / 1” to 2” ease at the bust.

Below are the final lace sweater measures for the different sizes.

  • XS: 75 cm / 29.75” bust, 38 cm / 14.75” upper arm
  • S: 91 cm / 36” bust, 38 cm / 14.75” upper arm
  • M / L: 106 cm / 41.75” bust, 38 cm / 14.75” upper arm

  • 4XL / 5XL: 152 cm / 60” bust, 53 cm / 21” upper arm

The length for all sizes is 60 cm / 23.5”. To adjust the length, add/remove a flower lace repeat to both the front and back panels (+- 11.5 cm / 4.5”). Alternatively, you can add/remove rows of dc at the beginning of the panels (refer to notes in the pattern). Don’t forget to adjust your yarn quantity accordingly.

Gauge

The gauge for this pattern (blocked!), in dc, is 13 st by 14 rows for a 10 cm by 10 cm / 4” by 4” square.

Abbreviations

This pattern uses US notations.

  • st = stitch
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • tr = treble crochet
  • sp = space

Notes

Work instructions between [] the indicated number of times or until the end of the row / round.

The final number of stitches is indicated at the end of the row / round between < >.

The turning ch 2, ch 3 don’t count as stitches throughout the pattern except if mentioned otherwise.

The pattern is written in crochet shorthand.  For example:

  • “sc 1” means to single crochet in the next stitch,
  • “sc 2” means to single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches,
  • and “2 sc” means to single crochet twice in the next st.

Construction

The sweater is worked in panels. Both sleeves and the back panels are simple rectangles while the front panel has some shaping to form a beautiful round neck shape.

All panels of the Fleur Lace Sweater are made with the same beautiful flower lace stitch.

Blocking

You’re done with the crocheting part. Make sure to weave in all the ends (except for sewing).

To make your lace sweater even prettier, help even your stitches and open up the lace sections, wet block your project.

Don’t skip this step as it can make a huge difference. Read my detailed tutorial on why block, how-to, and all my tips and tricks if you need help.

Assembly

Start by sewing the shoulder seams.

Attach the sleeves to the body: fold the sleeve in half and start by sewing the middle to the shoulder seam. Sew down on both sides.

Make sure your chain is at the forearm not the shoulder side to ensure your flowers are in the same direction as on the body.

Finish by sewing the body closed on both sides.

Weave in all your ends.
