Front details of the dusk hooded crochet vest pattern

For days when you need another layer, but a sweater is too much, Your Dusk Hooded Vest is the perfect crochet piece to grab from your closet. The loose fit and flat open front allows it to pair nicely with almost any top you own. An oversized hood adds interest to the back (and protects your hair when you get caught in the rain!), and a contrasting lace detail adds a touch of femininity.

The pattern is made out of two rectangles, meaning it’s perfect for beginner crocheters, and is available in sizes XS to 5XL. You’ll feel cozy yet stylish at home or away in this crochet hooded vest.

Blocking and Finishing Touches

You’re done with the crocheting part. Make sure to weave in all the ends.

Carefully block your pieces to give them their best shape and open up the lace sections.

Don’t skip this step as it can make a huge difference. Read my detailed tutorial on why block, how-to, and all my tips and tricks if you need help.

Assembly

To assemble the vest, sew the shoulders leaving 13 cm / 5” of the front flaps unseamed on each side.

Assembly: sew the shoulders leaving 13 cm / 5" unseamed

To form the hood, fold the panel in half and sew both larger denim sides together up to the last 8 stitches.

Assemble the crochet hoodie

Thread your needle through the 8 remaining stitches and pull tightly to close the hole.

Thread through the last stitches to avoid a pointed hoodie

Finally, attach the hood to the body of the vest. Match the center back of the hood with the center back of the vest and seam to the back and front flaps (loose 13 cm / 5”).

I have a question regarding pattern sizes. You say the pattern is written for M/L. But in the pattern, the number of beginning chains mentioned outside the parentheses, seem to be those for size S/XS. Please clarify. Thank you.

Hi Harriet, the pictures show size M/L but the sizes are written XS/S (M/L, XL/2X, 3X/4X, 5XL/6XL) (cfr sizes section)
