For days when you need another layer, but a sweater is too much, Your Dusk Hooded Vest is the perfect crochet piece to grab from your closet. The loose fit and flat open front allows it to pair nicely with almost any top you own. An oversized hood adds interest to the back (and protects your hair when you get caught in the rain!), and a contrasting lace detail adds a touch of femininity.
The pattern is made out of two rectangles, meaning it’s perfect for beginner crocheters, and is available in sizes XS to 5XL. You’ll feel cozy yet stylish at home or away in this crochet hooded vest.

The Yarn
LionBrand Wool-Ease is a worsted weight yarn made of wool and acrylic, so you get the softness and warmth of wool, plus it’s machine washable and easy to care for. It’s a versatile and durable yarn, which is exactly what you need when you’re designing pieces for everyday wear.
The yarn is available in 16 colors that feel modern yet classic. Browse their selection and you’re sure to find something that suits your next crochet project.

Before you Start
Materials
- 6 mm / US J – 10 hook.
- Lionbrand Wool Ease (85g, 80% Acrylic, 20% Wool, 180m / 197yds):
- 5 (6, 7, 8, 9) skeins Denim color
- 1 skein Fisherman color.
- Tapestry needle to weave in the ends. I love this set as it has different eye sizes for different yarn thicknesses and it comes in a small tube which is very convenient so I don’t lose them.

The Actual Hooded Crochet Vest Pattern
The Crochet Vest Body
With your 6mm / US J – 10 hook and denim color yarn chain 129 (153, 177, 201, 225) + 2.

Repeat Rows 5 to 7.

Repeat Row 8 until you reach 55 cm /21.5”.
Now you need to split your work in 3 sections: both front panels and the back panel. This way you create the armholes.

Repeat Rows 5 to 7.
Switch back to denim color yarn.
Row 8: Ch 2, dc across, turn.
Repeat Row 8 until you reach 20 cm / 7.75”.
Blocking and Finishing Touches
You’re done with the crocheting part. Make sure to weave in all the ends.
Carefully block your pieces to give them their best shape and open up the lace sections.
Don’t skip this step as it can make a huge difference. Read my detailed tutorial on why block, how-to, and all my tips and tricks if you need help.
Assembly
To assemble the vest, sew the shoulders leaving 13 cm / 5” of the front flaps unseamed on each side.

To form the hood, fold the panel in half and sew both larger denim sides together up to the last 8 stitches.

Thread your needle through the 8 remaining stitches and pull tightly to close the hole.

Finally, attach the hood to the body of the vest. Match the center back of the hood with the center back of the vest and seam to the back and front flaps (loose 13 cm / 5”).

Weave in all the ends and enjoy your hooded crochet vest.

November 11, 2020 at 12:58 pmI have a question regarding pattern sizes. You say the pattern is written for M/L. But in the pattern, the number of beginning chains mentioned outside the parentheses, seem to be those for size S/XS. Please clarify. Thank you.
