The crochet lace summer cardigan is a fantastic addition to your casual summer wardrobe. Made from two simple rectangles worked lengthwise, it’s an easy project that’s perfect for beginners. The cardigan comes in hybrid sizes from XS to 4XL/5XL, making it inclusive and versatile. Its loose and airy design keeps you cool and comfortable on warm days, adding a stylish touch to your outfits.
Featuring delicate puff flowers, this cardigan has a charming, laid-back vibe. Despite the intricate look of the puff flowers, the pattern is beginner-friendly and straightforward. The lightweight fabric is ideal for summer, making it a great piece to throw over a tank top or sundress for an effortlessly chic look. Whether you’re heading to the beach or just out for a casual stroll, this cardigan adds a touch of style without the fuss.
The Inspiration
A lot of my designs come from my favorite pieces in my own wardrobe. I like making things I already know I love to wear. The Marguerite Cardigan crochet pattern is one of these! It’s a laid-back summer cardigan that’s perfect for casual days, designed with a unique flower texture twist that makes it stand out.

This summer cardigan pattern is similar to the Ariel Cardigan and the June Cardigan, but with its own unique touch featuring pretty crochet puff stitch flower petal details. They all have similar construction concepts and can be easily adjusted for different lengths. For this cardigan, I used sport weight (#2) yarn, which falls right between the fingerling weight (#1) yarn I used for the June Cardigan and the DK weight (#3) yarn I used for the Ariel Cardigan.

Construction
The boho crochet summer cardigan is worked in 2 long panels sewed together. Each panel is worked lengthwise in rows back and forth. The panels are then folded in half and sewed together along the back and on the side (leaving a wide opening for the armholes).

Gauge
The gauge for this pattern, in stitch pattern, is 18 st by 7.5 rows for a 10 cm by 10 cm / 4” by 4” square.
Abbreviations
This pattern uses US notations.
- st = stitch
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- tr = treble crochet
- fdc = foundation double crochet
Notes
Work instructions between [] the indicated number of times or until the end of the row / round. The final number of stitches is indicated at the end of the row / round between < >. The turning ch 2, ch 3 don’t count as stitches throughout the pattern except if mentioned otherwise. The pattern is written in crochet shorthand. For example:
- “sc 1” means to single crochet in the next stitch,
- “sc 2” means to single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches,
- and “2 sc” means to single crochet twice in the next st.
Construction
The cardigan is worked in 2 long panels sewed together. Each panel is worked lengthwise in rows back and forth.
Special Stitches and Repeated Patterns
- Puff stitch (5 half double crochet worked all in one st) = yarn over (yo), insert hook in indicated st, yo, pull up a loop, [yo, insert hook in same st, yo, pull up a loop] 4 times, yo, pull through all 11 loops on the hook. There is no ch 1 to close the puff stitch.
Note: For this pattern your puff stitches will be worked on wrong side rows so it will show on the right side when you turn your work.
- Foundation double crochet (fdc) = ch 4, yo, insert hook into 4th ch from hook, pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through first loop (making a “chain”). [Yarn over and pull through 2 loops] twice.
**Yarn over, insert hook into previous “chain” you made (It should look like you go through a resemblance of a “normal” st, with 2 strands of yarn), pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through first loop (making a “chain”). [Yarn over and pull through 2 loops] twice. Repeat from ** until you reached the desired number of stitches. Blocking
You’re done with the crocheting part. Make sure to weave in all the ends (except for sewing).
To make your cardigan even prettier, help even your stitches and open up the lace sections, wet block your project. Don’t skip this step as it can make a huge difference. Read my detailed tutorial on why block, how-to, and all my tips and tricks if you need help.
Assembly
Place both panels next to each other with the right side up (puffs coming out). The puffs should be on the outside for both panels.

Sew both panels together lengthwise up to 76 cm / 30”.
Sew up the sides up to 54 cm / 21”.
Weave in the ends.
