Weaving Wheat Knit Blanket Square Pattern

Yarn

Worsted weight (# 4) yarn, 75yds
Sample was created in Red Heart Super Saver in Bronze (7oz/364yds, 100% acrylic)

Size 

8 inches x 8 inches (20 x 20 cm) 

Needles

US Size 8 (5mm) or whatever needle size is needed to achieve gauge

Gauge 

18 sts x 21 rows = 4in (10cm) in pattern after blocking

Special Sts

Horseshoe cable (6 sts)
Row 1 (RS): C3B, C3F
Row 2: P
Row 3: K
Row 4: P
Row 5: K
Row 6: P

Tools

  • Scissors 
  • Cable needle 
  • Yarn needle

Abbreviations

  • Sts: stitches
  • RS: right side
  • WS: wrong side
  • K: knit
  • P: purl
  • Rep: repeat
  • C3F: place 1 st on a cable needle, hold to the front of the work, k2 from main needle, k1 from cable needle
  • C3B: place 2 sts on a cable needle, hold to the back of the work, k1 from main needle, k2 from cable needle
  • K2tog: Knit 2 sts together
  • YO: Yarn over
  • SSK: slip one knitwise, slip one knitwise, knit the two stitches together

All measurements are done in Imperial measurements other than gauge

Cast on 37sts
Row 1 (WS): K across
Row 2: K2, *C3B, C3F, p3; rep from * to last 8 sts, C3F, C3B, k2
Row 3: K2, *p6, K2tog, yo, k1; rep from * to the last 8 sts, p6, k2
Row 4: K2, *k6, p3; rep from * to the last 8 sts, k8
Row 5: K2, p6, k1, yo, ssk to the last 8 sts, p6, k2
Row 6: K2, *k6, p3; rep from * to the last 8 sts, k8

Rep Rows 2-6 until there are 40 rows completed, working the Horseshoe cables ever 6th row (: Rows 8, 14, 20,
26, 32, and 38), ending on Row 3
Row 41: K across
Row 42: Bind off in knit

Break yarn.

Finishing

Weave in ends and block gently ensuring to open the cables, to the measurement of 8 x 8 inches (20 x 20 cm).
