Before You Start Your Flight Formation Crochet Stitch Tutorial Blanket Section

Mateials

Size

The Blanket section is approximately 14 cm / 5.5” tall and 127 cm / 50” wide.

The textured V bird in the flight formation stitch is 5 stitches wide. The entire formation requires a stitch multiple of 30 st.

Gauge

The gauge for this pattern, in pattern, is 17.5 st by 11.5 rows for a 10 cm by 10 cm / 4” by 4” square.

Abbreviations

This pattern uses US notations.

  • st = stitch
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • fptr = front post treble crochet

Notes

Work instructions between [] the indicated number of times or until the end of the row / round.

The final number of stitches is indicated at the end of the row / round between < >.

The turning ch 1, ch 4 don’t count as stitches throughout the pattern except if mentioned otherwise.

Free Yarn Jargon Cheatsheets

The pattern is written in crochet shorthand.  For example:

  • “dc 1” means to double crochet in the next stitch,
  • “dc 2” means to double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches,
  • and “2 dc” means to double crochet twice in the next st.

Special Stitches and Repeated Patterns

  • Front post treble crochet (fptr) =
  • Yarn over twice, insert hook from front to back to front behind the indicated double crochet post below, yarn over, and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook).
  • Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook).
  • Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook).
  • Yarn over, and pull through all remaining loops.

The Actual Flight Formation Crochet Blanket Stripe Pattern Free

Work this part on top of the divider section. You will start with a RS row.


Row 1 – 4: Ch 2, dc across, turn.

Row 5: Ch 2, [dc 2, fptr in dc 2 rows below and 3 stitches further, dc 3, fptr around same dc as previous post st, dc 3] across, turn.

Row 6 – 8: Ch 2, dc across, turn.

Row 9: Ch 2, [dc 17, fptr in dc 2 rows below and 3 stitches further, dc 3, fptr around same dc, dc 8] across, turn.
