Border

border for modern crochet blanket pattern free

Note: The exact stitch count doesn’t matter and your personal tension and yarn choice means that your blanket may be more or less stretchy so don’t be afraid to adjust accordingly to keep your border smooth and even:

  • if you feel the border is pulling the side edge a little too tight, simply work an extra stitch in a row end stitch where you’d expect to work only one stitch.
  • If the border starts to look a bit ruffled, just work one stitch in a row end stitch where you’d expect to work two stitches.

With your 5 mm / US H – 8 crochet hook, start with ch 2 and work in dc along each side of the blanket. You’ll start with ch 2 and work in rounds, joining to the ch 2 at the end of each round without turning your work

The exact stitch count doesn’t matter (refer to the note above). You’ll need approximately 36 st per 24-row repeat.

Corner sts in Round 1 are the first and last sts of the final row and the foundation chains at both ends of Row 1. In Rounds 2-4 corner sts are the second st of the 3dc cluster worked in the previous round’s corner st.

Round 1 (RS): Ch 2, 1 dc in corner st, 1 dc in first row end stitch of next side, 2 dc in next row end stitch, [1 dc, 2 dc] to corner st, 3 dc in corner st, dc to corner st, 3 dc in corner st, [1 dc, 2 dc] in row end sts to corner st, 3 dc in corner st, dc to corner st, 1 dc in corner st, sl st in 2nd ch of beginning ch-2.

Round 2 – 4: Ch 2, 1 dc in same st, [dc to corner st, 3 dc in corner st] three times, dc to corner st, 1 dc in corner st, sl st in 2nd ch of beginning ch-2. <24 sts increased over 3 rounds>

Fasten off and weave in the end.

Blocking

You’re done with the crocheting part. Make sure to weave in all the ends.

To make your stitch pattern even prettier, help straighten your edges and flatten the corners block your project.
